In 1972 Bill Young began his karate training at the age of 18 in his hometown of Gloucester, NSW with Shihan Ron Vale at the Eastern Martial Arts Association. After seven years he made the move to Coffs Harbour and began
teaching locally through the Kaigan-Kan Karate-Do (karate by the sea) club. Here Bill graded his first black belts, including Coffs Harbour local and instructor, Mr Tony Capararo. In Coffs Harbour Bill also trained his now wife Natalie, who was awarded the rank of Yon Dan (4th Dan) in 2013, and went on to compete in the ISKA US OPEN, Orlando Florida, winning three world titles.
Leaving Coffs in 1996, Bill taught karate across various regional NSW locations and was awarded the rank of Hachi Dan (8th Dan) in 2016, the ISKA Senior Instructor of the year 2006, ISKA Referee of the Year 2008, the ISKA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 and is a level five ISKA tournament Judge/Referee. In 2003 Bill became director of World Martial Arts Alliance Australia.
Bill has over 40 years experience teaching Traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate, and has studied various other styles to strengthen his teachings. Specifically being Close Quarter Combat, Kempo, Akido, Nippon Budokai, Kendo, Wushu Kung Fu, Okinawa Ryukyu Kobudo, and Kenjutsu (traditional sword).

Began training straliaat the age 18 in the traditional style of Shotokan karate in Coffs Harbour.
After many years of dedicate d training achieved a Black Belt and began helping with the everyday running of a successful karate club
, several Martial Arts Tournaments and began traveling overseas for Okinawan Weapons
Training and competing in the US Open where three world titles were achieved in weapons and kata. Over the years training has continued in various styles including Kempo, Kung-Fu, Kenjitsu.
My training will never end as I try to improve my skill and help other achieve their own goals. With a need to share the Shotokan System of our club we have seen our clubs grow and prosper leading to the opening of ten karate clubs of various sizes.
